Small Arms Awareness Campaign
Project in WGWR in cooperation with Khmer Youth Social Development and
Non-Violence Youth and Society Association conducted a youth forums on
May 19, 2005 on the topic of "Youth and Gun" in Phnom Penh city
with 125 participants and 3 speakers, H.E Mr. Major General UK
Kim Lek, Mrs. Peou Vanna (WGWR Executive Deputy Director), and Mr. Tieng Saman (SPD Program Manager).
The Overall Objective of
the Youth Forum is to "Increase the understanding the gun related
issues and to create more opportunities for the youth to meet and discuss
together weapons related issues, and security, especially on the proper
roles and strategies they can take part in the weapons reduction and communities
security improvement efforts."
Two major topics, Arms
Law, and Situation of Gun Misuses and Violence on Youth and Students,
were selected and discussed. Moreover, the participants were divided into
groups to discuss Direct and Indirect consequences of gun violence on
youth and students, Factors that hinder the youth participation in eradicating
gun violence, and Roles of touth in gun violence prevention. For
